Thursday 4th Feb

Another good day at POP.
Increased visitor numbers - word is getting out - and a lively Environmental Champions course.
I'm looking forward to tomorrow's paper making and Saturday's music workshop.
The place is looking much more lived in and welcoming.
Hope to see YOU soon.

  1. Environmental Champions - week 1 in your neighbourhood
Thanks to all the participants of Environmental Champions yesterday. We had quite an animated session looking at what are some of the causes of the environmental problems in Blackburn with Darwen. There was a general consensus that litter is a problem in the borough and that we need to take small steps to try and change what seems to be, at the moment, a cultural norm of dropping litter. On the plus side, participants were impressed with the borough’s recycling scheme (honestly I didn’t pay them to say that), parks and open spaces and environmental education in schools. We had representatives from the North East Neighbourhood Board, Corporation Park supporters group, Darwen and Rural lancs wildlife trust and a non-resident currently working on an ‘artistic’ recycling project in the borough. Looking forward to next week when we will be looking at effective environmental campaigning.

  2. Paper making
Wow what a wonderful day! It started off with 3 paper makers who were very interested in the whole process of paper making so thank you for coming I hope that you can take some of the ideas your learnt today forward.
We then had 30 students from the local arts college descend on us. Obviously today’s focus was on paper making and there were some very keen paper makers coming up with designs I hadn’t realised you can do with paper, it was wonderful to have so many creative minds coming together.
Although I was immersed in the paper making I was aware of people being drawn to the different types of art being displayed. I think there was something for everyone this afternoon which is what ‘POP’ is all about.
